Atheists, let's apply some logic to your objections...?

Most Atheists want to end religion because some religions cause wars, abuse humans, impose their beliefs on the State, etc. But what have these things to do with God? Don't the problems lie with certain religious doctrines an extremism, and not the concept of God? For instance, I believe in God and am for Separation of Church and State and am for the advancement and teaching of science. As a Christian, I believe in serving others and helping my fellow man. So obviously, my belief in God does not present any of the problems that Atheists accuse religious individuals of. Do you not think it more wise and logical, therefore, to focus on the beliefs and doctrines that certain religions use to promote evil, terror, and the hindrance of scientific and societal advancement rather than focusing on the concept of God, from which it does not follow that evil arises? Your thoughts? And only serious answers from thinking Atheists please. I don't wish to read rants or irrelevant comments.
